What Islamic Sources Say About Jesus — The Evidence Muslims Cannot Ignore
The Quran and hadith say extraordinary things about Jesus — things that no other prophet receives. This section compiles everything Islamic sources say about Jesus and lets the Muslim audience draw the conclusion: if Islam's own sources are correct about Jesus, why does Islam deny his divinity?
What the Quran Says About Jesus — The Complete Picture
Jesus in the Quran — Titles, Miracles, and Status No Other Prophet Receives
Title 1 — Kalimatullah (God's Word — Surah 4:171):
"O People of the Book! Do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not attribute to Allah anything except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah and His Word (kalimatuhu) which He directed to Mary and a spirit from Him (ruhun minhu)."
No other prophet in the Quran is called "the Word of Allah" or "a Spirit from Him." Not Moses. Not Abraham. Not Muhammad. Jesus alone receives both titles in one verse.
Title 2 — Al-Masih (The Messiah):
Jesus is called Al-Masih (the Messiah/Christ) 11 times in the Quran. No other figure in the Quran receives this title. Muhammad is never called the Messiah.
Title 3 — Wajihan (Honored/Distinguished — Surah 3:45):
"The angels said, 'O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary — distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah].'"
Distinguished in both this world AND the Hereafter. Brought near to Allah. This is unprecedented honor in the Quran.

Jesus's Miracles in the Quran — Greater Than Any Other Prophet
Surah 5:110 — Allah addresses Jesus directly:
"O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you made from clay the form of a bird, with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper, with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead, with My permission."
The miracles itemized:
— Spoke in the cradle as a newborn (Surah 19:29-33)
— Created living birds from clay

The phrase "with My permission (bi-idhni)" — what it means and what it does NOT mean:
Muslim apologists say "with My permission" means Jesus did nothing on his own — he was just a tool of Allah. But this phrase appears throughout the Quran for other prophets and even for ordinary things. Moses parted the Red Sea "with Allah's permission." This phrase does not diminish Jesus's miracles — it places them within God's sovereignty. The question is not whether they were by God's permission but whether any other prophet did the same things. Answer: no. Muhammad specifically denied performing miracles (Surah 6:37). The Quran gives Jesus miracles that even Moses did not perform — raising the dead and creating life.

Jesus Is Currently Alive in Heaven — Surah 4:157-158
Surah 4:157-158:
"And [for] their saying, 'Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.' And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them... And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself (rafa'ahu Allahu ilayhi)."
The Islamic theological position:
Jesus did not die on the cross. Allah raised him bodily to heaven. He is alive in heaven right now — unique among all prophets. Muhammad is dead and buried in Medina. Jesus is alive in heaven. By Islamic theology, Jesus currently possesses something no other prophet possesses: bodily life in the presence of Allah.
The question this raises:
If Jesus is currently alive in Allah's presence — while all other prophets including Muhammad are dead — what does this unique status indicate about his nature? The Quran does not answer this question. The NT does: Jesus is alive in heaven because he shares the divine life that death cannot end.

Jesus Will Return to Judge — The Hadith Evidence
Sahih Bukhari 3:43:656 (and parallel in Bukhari 4:55:657, Muslim 1:287):
"Allah's Apostle said, 'The Hour will not be established until the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you as a just ruler; he will break the cross, kill the pigs, and abolish the jizya tax. Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it.'"
Sahih Muslim 1:293:
"By Him in Whose hand is my life, the son of Mary will soon descend among you as a just judge. He will break crosses, kill swine, and abolish jizya."
The theological significance:
In Islamic eschatology, Jesus — not Muhammad — will return at the end of time to judge the world. Muhammad will not return. Muhammad is not the judge at the end. Jesus is.
This creates a fascinating situation from Christian apologetics: Islam's own sources agree with the NT on the key eschatological point — Jesus will come again to judge. Revelation 19 and 22 show the same Jesus coming in judgment. The NT explains why: he is the divine Son of Man who received eternal dominion (Daniel 7:14). The Quran records that Jesus will return without explaining why Jesus specifically — not another prophet — is the one who judges.

The NT answers: nothing is missing. The Quran's own testimony about Jesus, if taken seriously, leads to the conclusion that Jesus is more than a prophet. The Islamic theological system attempts to contain this testimony within prophethood — but the containment fails when examined carefully.
