Isa in the Quran — Every Verse About Jesus Systematically Analyzed
The Quran mentions Jesus (Isa) 25 times by name and refers to him many more times with titles and descriptions. This section provides a complete systematic inventory of every major Quranic passage about Jesus, with theological analysis showing that the Quran's own testimony about Jesus is extraordinary — and points beyond the category of ordinary prophethood.
The Titles — What the Quran Calls Jesus and Only Jesus
Five Exclusive Titles Given Only to Jesus in the Quran
1 — Al-Masih (المسيح) — The Messiah:
Occurs 11 times in the Quran — Surah 3:45, 4:157, 4:171, 4:172, 5:17, 5:72, 5:75, 9:30, 9:31. No other prophet in the Quran is called "the Messiah." Muhammad is never called the Messiah.
2 — Kalimatullah / Kalimatuhu (كلمة الله) — The Word of Allah:
Surah 3:45: "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah Jesus..."
Surah 4:171: "The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His Word (kalimatuhu) which He directed to Mary."
No other prophet is called "the Word of Allah." Not Moses, not Abraham, not Muhammad.
3 — Ruhun Minhu / Ruhun Min Allah (روح من الله) — A Spirit from Him:
Surah 4:171: "...and a spirit from Him (ruhun minhu)."
Surah 21:91: "And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity, so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds."
No other prophet receives the title "a spirit from Allah."
4 — Wajihan (Distinguished) — "Honored in this world and the Hereafter":
Surah 3:45: "...whose name will be the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah]."
Distinguished (wajihan) in BOTH this world AND the Hereafter — and "among those brought near (muqarrab) to Allah." This is the highest status the Quran grants to any created being.
5 — Ayatun li al-'alamin (Sign for all the worlds):
Surah 21:91: "...We made her and her son a sign (ayatan) for the worlds."
Surah 23:50: "And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign."
Jesus himself is called a divine sign — not merely a messenger who performs signs.

Surah 3:47:
Mary said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allah; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is."
Surah 19:20-21:
Mary said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.'"
The virgin birth of Jesus is confirmed in the Quran — something no other prophet receives. The Islamic explanation (Jesus was created by the word "Kun!" without a father) still acknowledges the unique, miraculous birth that sets Jesus apart from every other prophet.

"O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you made from clay the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission."
The six categories of miraculous action:
(1) Speaking from the cradle as a newborn
(2) Creating life (birds from clay — breathing life into inanimate matter)
(3) Healing blindness from birth
(4) Healing leprosy
(5) Raising the dead
(6) Omniscient knowledge (Surah 3:49 — "I will inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses")
Muhammad's miracles in the Quran:
Surah 6:37: "They say, 'Why has no sign been sent down to him from his Lord?'"

Surah 4:157-158 — Jesus raised to Allah:
"And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him... rather, Allah raised him to Himself."
Jesus is currently alive — physically present with Allah in heaven.
Muhammad's current status:
Muhammad died in 632 AD. He is buried in Medina. Sahih Bukhari records his death. Abu Bakr's immediate statement: "Whoever worshipped Muhammad — Muhammad is dead." Muhammad is not in heaven with Allah — he is in his grave.
The eschatological role:
Jesus will descend from heaven to judge the world (Bukhari 3:43:656). Muhammad will not descend — he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment like all other humans.
The Quranic comparison completed:
